Sharing Hebrew Roots with Christians—The Lunar Sabbath Debacle—America Spotlighted in Deuteronomy 32

Sabbath Thoughts and Reflections Episode 70

Day of Atonement
The Temple Rite Related to the Day of Atonement

The Temple Rite Related to the Day of Atonement

Just a day or so out from Day of Atonement (aka Yom Kippur)—a most solemn day of rest for our Faith where we fast and pray and reflect upon our lives and the past year. Prophets sight this Day of Atonement as a day in the not too distant future when the nation of Israel will face existential destruction, losing 2/3 of her residents as well as others sight the time when Yahovah will judge the earth and her inhabitants

Feast of Tabernacles (aka Sukkot)

A City of Sukkas

A City of Sukkas

From Atonement, we’re then just 5-days away from Sukkot (aka Feast of Tabernacles)—the 8-day extravaganza where we celebrate all that Father has done for us during the year and we commemorate the time when we sojourned in the desert in temporary booths. Sukkot also is a prophetic shadow picture of the time in the future when Yeshua will return to this earth and establish His millennial kingdom here on earth. Torah will become the standard of His world government and peace and prosperity will reign throughout the world

The 2nd Presidential Debate this past Sunday—certainly our nation is in dire need of prayer given the peoples’ choices this go around and the problems facing this nation

  • Racial division
  • Economic uncertainty
  • Islamic terrorism
  • Governmental assaults on the rights of the American citizens
  • Globalists intrusion on the sovereignty of this nation (internet, economy, Agenda 21, elections)
  • Threats of war with China and Russia
  • Inept legislative branch of government
  • Corruption in our government at the highest levels
  • Death of countless industries in this nation (coal, steel, manufacturing)

Had a wonderful gathering and meal with members of our weekly Shabbat Fellowship this past Sunday and our special visitor/guest was none-other than Michael Rood who was fresh off a weekend teaching stint in Los Angeles with a Chinese contingent, seeking to learn about our Faith. I. Sharing Hebrew Roots with Christians

Had a very impromptu but welcomed opportunity to share our Faith with a young lady who comes across in actions and talk as a “devout,” fundamental Christian. What follows is a brief summary of my experience and reflections on the such encounters

Cited Reasons Why Hebrew Roots is Bad According to Some Christians

  • Too many distractions
  • Too much focus on works and the law
  • Christianity promotes heart and grace
  • Not interested in hearing truth because it doesn’t really matter—it’s all distractions
  • Many believe they’ve found God and all of His truth, so they have no need to receive or seek out new truths

Lessons Learned

  • These are lost causes
  • We can only hope the seeds we may have opportunity to have planted will someday germinate and take root
  • Discern the spirit of the inquisitors–are they curious about what you believe solely for purposes of boxing you? Or are they seeking knowledge
  • Be ready instantly to give a reason for the Faith (Peter)  Be ready in season and out of season (Paul)

but treat the Messiah as holy, as Lord in your hearts; while remaining always ready to give a reasoned answer to anyone who asks you to explain the hope you have in you- yet with humility and fear, 16 keeping your conscience clear, so that when you are spoken against, those who abuse the good behavior flowing from your union with the Messiah may be put to shame. (1Pe 3:15 CJB)

proclaim the Word! Be on hand with it whether the time seems right or not. Convict, censure and exhort with unfailing patience and with teaching. (2Ti 4:2 CJB)

  • Control. Be prepared to have the Church talking points hurled at you and to not take it personally. Let the Ruach take control of the situation. It’s not about us, but about Him
  • Realize the world rejects Torah and any who would honor and guard it
  • In reality they are rejecting Yahovah
  • Plant the seed and let the Ruach do the rest. It’s up to Father. Father chooses us, not us Him
  • Pray for the inquisitors
  • Realize that churchianity will never be able to reconcile Mat. 5:17,18

17 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.19 Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.20 For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven. (Mat 5:17-20 KJV)

2. The Lunar Sabbath Debacle

The Lunar Sabbath Debacle

The Lunar Sabbath Debacle

Long Lost Church Sabbath Friends Turn to the Lunar Sabbath

Last week I ran into a member of a Sabbath Keeping church I used to attend about 4 or 5 years ago while grocery shopping. Hadn’t seen her since. Turns out she and her husband also left that church shortly after Hilary and I did. But in the interim, this couple took a very different turn than Hilary and I did. This couple entered into the Lunar Sabbath sect of our Faith. Yes, another family has fallen for this lie from the very pit of hell. Turns out, we are friends without another couple who we met at a Rood Awakening Conference about 3-years ago and they too recently left the 7-day Sabbath for the Lunar Sabbath sect of our Faith. Learning of these defections from the true Faith once delivered not only angered me (yes angered), but also intrigued me: what was this Lunar Sabbath thing all about? Why would someone abandon that which the Bible clearly instructs—to remember the Sabbath Day and to keep it holy. This instruction finds it very root at creation when Father rested from His creative work on the 7th Day. And from that day forward to today, a remnant of peoples throughout the earth have kept holy the 7th day. The vast majority of the world’s population could care less about the Sabbath. But we in this Faith of ours (and to a great degree, practicing Jews worldwide) are blessed to realize the critical importance of this day on the weekly calendar—regardless what Christianity teaches to the contrary.

What is this Lunar Sabbath All About?

So I elected to find out what this Lunar Sabbath debacle (I call it debacle which essentially means a disaster—something that the enemy has thrown at us that too many of our lot have grabbed hold of and adopted it as biblical truth) was all about without wanting to waste too much of my time doing it. What follows is what I’ve come up with in my low-level search. I’m certain there is more to this madness than what I mention here, but I think I’ve at least mentioned the basics, which should be enough to base judgment as to whether or not this thing is of Abba Father or hasatan.

The Facts

  • The weekly Sabbath is observed on the same days of the renewed moon each week during the same biblical month
  • 8th, 15th, 22nd and 29th (where is that in scripture—it ain’t there)
  • http://www.lunarsabbath.org
  • Author of article I read is offering $10,000 to anyone who can locate a weekly Sabbath on any other day than by the moon’s reckoning of days (what????)
  • There are 72 weekly Sabbaths per biblical year
  • The renewed moon is a worship day
  • Eze 46:1-3 (proof?)—yet there is no solid tie in to the weekly Sabbath with the renewed moon each month
  • Key word is “and”
  • Isa 66:23—same as in Eze 46
  • Num 28:11-14
  • Where is the true historic evidence that our forefathers kept the weekly Sabbaths on the 8th, 15th, 22nd and 29th of each month?
  • Exo 16:1-23?? Like one of those months where the weekly Sabbath will fall on the 8th, 15th, 22nd and 29th of the month—it just will work out that way in some months
  • Col 2:16
  • We must rely upon the moon to tell us what day it is because everyday is alike, including the Sabbath according to the author
  • Eze 46:1; Isa 66:23; Amos 8:5
  • We are commanded to observe the luni-solar calendar to determine days and weeks and months and years
  • There is no specific commandment to base the Sabbaths on as it relates to sighting the monthly renewed moon
  • What happens when the renewed moon is not sighted on the expected day?

So What? Is the Lunar Sabbath of Yahovah or Man? (or Hasatan)

  • Smoking mirrors and just another play of the enemy to get us to disobey the test-Torah commandment to honor the Sabbath day
  • When Abba set the 7th day as the set apart day of the week, did he institute that each of those days would occur on the 8th, 15th, 22nd and 29th of each month? Not likely. You seek, Father instituted a full-proof way to tell when His set-apart day of the week would be, regardless where one was in the world. We’ve never lost track of when the 7th day occurs from the creation—all the way back to Adam. Are the lunar-sabbatarians saying that Yahovah change this set-up? Not likely
  • I have come to understand however, just how important Chodesh is each month—I will embark upon a deep study on this subject and report back

3. Deuteronomy 32—A Prophetic Shadow of America Today

A Present Day Image of America Straight out of Torah

In my Torah studies this past week, I came to the 32nd Chapter of Deuteronomy, which the Bible editors entitled “The Song of Moses.” This so-called song of Moses captured my imagination and my attention as I carefully read through it. It was clearly a prophetic overview of the future of Israel. Moses in this dissertation addressed the past, present and future relationship Abba Father has with us. Much of the dissertation focused upon the future relationship which was for lack of a better description, bleak. And this Song of Moses of course spot-on pegged the future events that would befall us as a people as a result of our disobedience to Torah. And I could not but help seeing here an amazing parallel to that of this country. It is almost a glove-fitting overview of what is currently happening and is likely to happen to us in this country if we don’t get our act together and turn to Yahovah and His Torah. So what I want to share with you now is my reflections of Deuteronomy 32 and its prophetic shadow of America today.

A Song of Moshe

  • (vss. 4-6) Despite all that Yahovah has done for our nation over the centuries and all that He is (i.e., our Rock; truth; without iniquity; just and right—vs. 4) we requite Him (i.e., we “gamal” or repay Him by being a blemished, crooked and twisted generation (vss. 5 & 6)
  • (vss. 7-14) In so being a blemished, crooked and twisted generation, we’ve forgotten our heritage—how we used to be a God-fearing people; how we used to revere the Bible as the Word of the Most High; how we have a moral compass by which to live our lives and as a result, we were abundantly blessed of Yahovah
  • (vs. 15) But we’ve grown fat and have forsaken Yahovah and have rejected His salvation and protection
  • (vss. 16-18) Our apathy towards Yahovah and the adoption of a Torah-less life has provoked Yahovah to jealousy and anger
  • We’ve replaced Yahovah with other gods. And because we are too smart and too sophisticated a people and generation these days, our gods are no longer religious or faith based. Instead, we replaced Father with the gods of greed, ego, power, fortune, possessions, social media, friends, entertainment, careers and governments
  • (vss. 19 & 20) Yahovah is not blind to our transgressions and our rejection of Him as our sovereign Master. Thus our Rock hides His face from us and is allowing the chips to fall where they may fall in this country of ours
  • We will get the president we deserve
  • We will get the end that we deserve
  • Pray as we may, this nation will ultimately fall because of her rejection of Yahovah and her sin
  • (vs. 21a) We’ve replaced Yahovah with the cares and desires of this present life and world. Thus we’ve effectively moved Abba to jealousy and anger with our vanities
  • Why? Because He is supposed to be our all in all
  • (vs. 21b) Thus as a consequence of our ways and our rejection of Him, Yahovah will move us to jealousy with a nation of people who are godless; He will provoke us to anger with the most unlikely nations—all these nations will put us to shame
    • Russia
    • China
  • (vs. 22) Additionally, Yahovah’s anger and jealousy will result in our nation being set on fire
    • Racial division
    • Political division
    • Social division
    • Social status division
  • (vs. 23) Yahovah will heap upon our nation mischiefs
    • Financial and economic collapse
  • (vs. 24) We will become a malnourished and unhealthy nation overall
    • Lab created foods replacing real food
    • GMOs
    • blights
    • droughts
    • floods
  • (vs. 25) There will be violence and terror and destruction affecting all sectors of our society
    • Regional and global scuffles and wars
    • Homegrown terrorism
    • Unbridled criminal activity
    • Anarchists
    • Technical terrorists
  • (vs. 26) Our nation will be scattered and human life will become a nominal commodity
    • People fleeing cities for suburbs and woods
    • preppers
  • (vs. 28) our nation lacks sound counsel and law and order; our government is against her citizens; our citizens don’t trust their government to have their best interests at heart; our government is corrupt; our leaders are career politicians who seek to increase their personal wealth and secure their power and authority
  • (vs. 29) our nation is heading for a great fall/collapse, but we as a people and nation seem to care very little for the pending/looming doom
  • (vs. 31) our enemies will ultimately become our judges and our executioners
  • (vs. 35) our end is looming ahead and is approaching us quickly
  • (vss. 37 & 38) when our end does come, Yahovah will ask us as a nation: what good did all our elohiym do us? Why have they not protected and delivered us from our demise?
  • (vss. 39-43) There is but One Elohiym who can bless, nurture, protect and deliver this nation from her pending doom

The Final Solution to the American-Deuteronomic Dilemma

  • The only way out of this existential quagmire that we are finding ourselves in is for this nation of ours is to reject/put away/destroy our idols and our evil behaviors and to turn to Yahovah and His Torah
  • At the very least, we Hebrew Rooters must get our collective and individual acts together and stop our foolishness and pray that Father puts off the pending doom for such a time that more people may be saved
  • It starts with each and every one of us today

Are We Seekers of God or Torah Observers?

 Sabbath Thoughts and Reflections-Episode-69

A Probing Question

For this episode of Sabbath Thoughts and Reflections, I have been led to share a comment left by a visitor to our website. That comment–more a question than a comment I should say–seemed to call into question just what I mean by the phrase “Torah Observer” (found in the title of our website) as opposed to someone who is a “Seeker of God.” In fact, here is the actual comment/question for your consideration:

Greetings to you…I can’t really tell you how I arrived here, at your site but it feels more like a tour guide assisted. Your terminology is new and different to me but I sense we have more in common than not. I have a few questions that might help me navigate myself into your Torah World…What makes one a Torah Observer opposed to a Seeker of God? And at what point, does one dive in opposed to wading in the shallow waters? What is the bigger view or commissioning of these Torah Observers? Maybe, I should start with the meaning of the root word, Observer? What does this mean? Thank you for time and your postings!

This comment/question was very opportunistic and timely for me. I had assumed that the title “The Messianic Torah Observer” was self-explanatory. I never thought that our title could conceivably trip up some people who are in search of Biblical and spiritual truth. Apparently, this seems to be the case, at least for a handful of folks. So I saw this question as an opportunity to sit back and truly examine what it means to be a “Torah Observer” and what it means to be a “God seeker.”

A Seeker of God Must Conduct Their Search With Their Whole Heart and Soul.

A Seeker of God Must Conduct Their Search With Their Whole Heart and Soul.

God Seeker/Truth Seeker-A New Concept?

The concept of being a “God-seeker” is relatively new to me. Growing up in the Southern Baptist Church and transitioning to the Interdenominational and charismatic Christian realms, I had never come across this phrase or concept before. You see, growing up in these Christian sects, you were either a Christian or you were something else–Catholic, Muslim, Buddhist, Hindi, Atheist, Agnostic, Satan Worshiper, etc. It had never really dawned on me that there were people out there who were in somewhat of a transitory period of searching for the one true God; the one true Faith; or even the one true principle in life that will sustain them for the rest of their lives.

It wasn’t until I’d become firmly established in Hebrew Roots that I began hearing about “truth seekers.” It appears that a great many people that are drawn to Hebrew Roots, instead of calling themselves Christians or Messianic Jews or Believers, prefer calling themselves “truth seekers” or “God seekers.” The funny thing is that I had actually begun hailing so-called “truth-seekers” in many of my opening comments to these episodes. Despite my frequent greetings to truth and or God seekers, I can honestly say that I’d never given a great deal of thought as to what exactly a “truth-seeker” or a “God-seeker” was. And when I say truth seeker, I also mean God-seeker, more or less.

To me, being a God Seeker implied that one was looking for or seeking for or after God. As a result of that seeking, one either must continue seeking. If one fails to find the object of his or her search there are only a couple options; (1) they either abandon the search altogether if the search proves futile; or (2) actually and ultimately find God Almighty–Yahovah–Yahuah–Yahweh–Abba Father. Since Abba is the holder of all truth, finding Him would in turn mean finding truth. But again, that’s me.

As has become the non-negotiable routine in my walk, I turned to the Bible to arrive at a proper understanding as to what we’re really talking about here. And what I came up with has once again changed the way I view my walk and this Faith of ours.

To Seek God is an Intentional Act

Seeking After God Is an Intentional Act--Not a Cognitive Exercise

Seeking After God Is an Intentional Act–Not a Cognitive Exercise

The English term “seek” is the Hebrew term “baqash.” Extra-biblical resources define “baqash” from the perspective of an intentional act. That intentional act focuses on a specific object that is the focal point of the search in question. The overall intent, of course, is to acquire or find (i.e., Hebrew “masa) the object in question. As it relates to our topic today, that object is our Heavenly Father or His Truth. In other words, a God-Seeker or God-”baqash” is focused upon acquiring or finding God and or His truth. Simple, hey? Well, don’t stop reading or listening just yet. There is more to this concept than our standard English language-Western understanding of what it means to seek after God.

What Are We Seeker After?

To begin with, wouldn’t it seem obvious to you that in order to seek God, the seeker must have some specific understanding of who, what and where God is. Otherwise, one may seek and find the wrong God as so many in history have done. Otherwise, one may seek and altogether overlook God. Why? Because the seeker never knew exactly who they were looking for in the first place. And then the seeker must determine whether they have the wherewithal to conduct a proper search for God. In other words, does the seeker have the proper spirit, mindset, heart and resources to conduct a proper search. Haven’t you ever sought after someone you were unfamiliar with? Someone you’ve not known or whom you’ve never met or seen before? Isn’t that search difficult if you lack the foundation upon which to base your search? Often, having a name is not nearly enough to make for a successful search. For instance, searching after “God” for instance is somewhat nebulous. The term “God” is a title, not a name. So it stands to reason that one must have more data in order to affect a successful search such as determining “God’s” true name. It’s conceivable that the seeker may require more information to augment our search. If the search fails to turn up the object of our search, such as God and His truths, maybe the seeker must then refine his/her search criteria such as knowing God’s true identity. In addition, the seeker might need to consider the work, history, affiliations, last known location, etc. of the object of our search–i.e., God.

Impediments to a Successful

We know that the enemy is always out there looking to trip us up in our walk. It doesn’t take much for him to hijack one’s search for the one true God. Both Christianity and Hebrew Roots alike are filled to overflowing with characters who go to great lengths to lead truth seekers astray and away from God’s Word. And if one aims to go on a search for God without being properly prepared, he or she is primed for becoming another statistic; another victim of religion and boot-leggers who mislead the sincere seeker of God. The unprepared seeker of God will undoubtedly encounter false teachers and preachers who will go out of their way to convince them that they know where to find the one true God and all of His truth. Before you know it, the seeker finds a God that is nothing like the God of Avraham, Yishach and Yaachov. Consequently, they inevitably will spend years enslaved in religion, having been lied to and believing all along that they’ve found the one true God. I know this because I’m speaking somewhat from personal experience. When I first transitioned into Hebrew Roots, I spent the first two to four years all over the place in terms of defining who Yahovah and His truth was. And how did I fall into this sideways trap? Well, I trusted men to teach me what I perceived at the time to be truth. Instead of my seeking after truth from the pages of my Bible and the revelation and leading of the Ruach Kodesh, I trusted men to feed me their version of the one true God and His truth.

Search Back on Track

It wasn’t until Hilary and I came across Arthur Bailey and Michael Rood that I was able to pack my bags and once again depart religion and resume my search for the One True God. Now I get that many of you reject Michael Rood and Arthur Bailey. But despite what you may or may not think or know of these two men, the bulk of their teachings point you right to the Bible. The Bible must always be the fulcrum of our search for God and His truth. Our search of God and His truth must never be conducted solely through a man or any organization as I mistakenly did. Michael’s and Arthur’s teachings pointed me to the Bible and in so doing, my search for Yahovah and His truth was set on the correct track. Do I agree with everything that these two men of Yahovah teach and preach? No I do not. But I do believe a great deal of what they teach and preach because the source of their teachings and preaching content is derived from the Bible. I have learned not to base my understanding of Yahovah and His truths from their commentary and personal opinions. I respect their opinions and commentary. However, I am more concerned with the Biblical foundation of their teachings as we all should be.

Seeking God–A Biblical Concept and Commandment

Additional extra-biblical analysis (i.e., Lexicons and Commentaries) further suggests that the act of seeking after God is rarely if ever a cognitive act. In other words, to seek after God is well beyond simple head knowledge that there is a God somewhere out there in the “great beyond,” and it behooves us to figure out who and what and where He is. This is evident in synonyms to “baqash” (i.e., to seek). Those synonyms are: to pursue (radap): to ask (sha’al); to petition; to visit (paqad) and to choose (bahar). So it is clear that any true search for or after Yahovah and His truths requires physical, emotional, psychological and spiritual effort on the part of the seeker.

We are commanded to seek after Yahovah. In so doing, seeking after Abba Father must be conducted according to His terms, not our own. Moses told us that we would be scattered among the peoples of the world and our numbers would diminish significantly. During that scattering, we would serve pagan gods and abandon Yahovah. But there would come a day when we would

“…seek Yahovah our God and we will find Him if we search for Him with all our heart and all our soul.” (Deuteronomy 4:27-29)

An example of that seeking by us while we sojourned in the Sinai can be found in Exodus 33:7. Nevertheless, Yahovah is found only when one seeks Him with their whole heart as noted in Jeremiah 29:13, which reads:

“You will find Me when you search for Me with all your heart. ‘I will be found by you,’ declares Yahovah’…”

This Searching After God is a Heart Thing

Failure to pursue Yahovah with the right heart and spirit is simply a feigned or fake search of Him. When seekers with improper hearts and spirits seek after Yahovah and they find themselves in need of the one true God, they will NOT find Him. (References: Ezekiel 7:25, 26; Hosea 5:6; Amos 8:12) This is a most serious thing with eternal implications for the seeker. And here’s that heart thing showing its head once again. Recall just a few episodes ago, I spoke to the importance of having a humble and contrite and broken heart and spirit in order for Abba to hear and notice us. Indeed, this for me was just another confirmation that our hearts must be in the right place at every time and place of our walk; even in our search for Abba Father and His truths.

The Search Must Have an Ultimate End

The ultimate aim of a God-seeker (as well as a truth-seeker) is of course to find the one True God and Creator of the Universe. Regardless what many will say or insinuate or feel or think, there must be a conclusion at some point to that search. The search can not continue unresolved. And I’m afraid that we have a generation of sincere believers who have made it a part-time pre-occupation of theirs to seek after God and His Truths. They somehow satisfy themselves more with the idea of being on a perpetual search for God than the idea of actually finding Him and His truths. And I would venture to guess that this is so because, once you find that which you’ve sought after your entire life, you’ll have to actually do something with that which you’ve sought after. And I’m talking about having to actually do something with the object of the search: do something with God. Right? Upon finding Him and His eternal truths, then comes the moment when all the questions start to get answered. Then comes the moment when the life we once knew and loved and lived is brought into question. Then comes the moment when we decide if we are going to embrace the end-result of that search and never look back.

What Do We Do When We Find God?

So it will come down to the seeker having to give up their former lives to the One True God. The seeker must pick up their staff and follow Yeshua Messiah. The seeker must be willing to sell everything and follow Him. It will come down to the seeker giving up possession of His body, mind, soul and spirit to the Master and the Work of the Gospel. It will come down to the seeker being obedient: being a Torah Observer. The seeking must come to an end. Father stated through His great prophet Jeremiah:

“And ye shall seek me and find me when ye shall search for me with all your heart. And I will be found of you, says Yahovah: and I will turn away your captivity and I will gather you from all the nations and from all the places whither I have driven you, says Yahovah; and I will bring you again into the place whence I caused you to be carried away captive.” (Jeremiah 29:13, 14; Cepher)

Many will say that this prophecy was fulfilled when Judah returned to the Land from their Babylonian captivity. Many will say that this prophecy was fulfilled when the Zionists established the state of Israel back in 1948. And indeed, maybe a portion of this prophecy was fulfilled during one or both of these historic events. But we know that Judah as it was in the days of the 2nd Temple and even today in the modern nation of Israel, have never truly sought after nor have they found Yahovah. If anything, these individuals sought after and found religion; they found secularism; they found paganism. They failed to find the one true God. And all indications are that many of us who have found the one true God and have become Netsarim and disciples of Yeshua HaMashiach, are probably part and parcel of the lost tribes of Israel, destined to return to the land at some point in time. The Jews currently living in Israel and throughout the world, assuming they are true Jews, remain blind to the truth about Yahovah and His Son. Most of them have not conducted a proper search for Yahovah.

If We Earnestly Seek Him We Shall Find Him–A Promise

Yet those who are truly seeking with the proper heart and spirit, Yahovah promises, they will ultimately find Him.

Folks, I don’t believe this Jeremiah prophecy has been completed. I believe we will see in the not too distant future, the true people—the true seekers-of Yahovah, will ultimately find Him. I have absolutely no doubt in my mind that this will happen. Right now, it doesn’t look too promising, but the call of Hebrew Roots—the message of Hebrew Roots—is getting out there. People are heeding the call of Yeshua Messiah. One-by-one, the scales are falling from truth seekers’ eyes. More and more people are discovering that the God that they once thought they’d found is really not the One True God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. The world has, for the most part, been sold a bill of goods. Most of the world has been introduced to and have accepted a knock-off/counterfeit version of the God of the Hebrews. But we Torah Observant Believers in Yeshua Messiah know that the original God is out there, waiting for seekers to find Him through the atoning sacrifice of His Son Yeshua Messiah, the revelation of Himself through the imparting of His Ruach HaKodesh and through washing by His Word.

I believe I’ve found the one True God. My search for Him is over. Now my search is to know Him and His ways. That search will likely take the remainder of my life to complete, if that is at even possible.

Shalom

Rejected by Family and the Hebrew Gospel of Matthew–Sabbath Thoughts and Reflections-68

Rejected by Family and the Hebrew Gospel of Matthew

Sabbath Thoughts and Reflections-68

Master Yahoshua was rejected by the very people He grew up. All indications are that Master’s hometown rejected His Messianic works and wisdom because they could not get past His past. This amazing story is recorded in Matthew 13:54-58 and Mark 6:1-6.

We must exercise discernment and caution when using many biblical resources

Exercise discernment and caution

What does that say about each of us in Hebrew Roots? How many of us have experienced rejection by family and friends because we are Hebrew Rooters? Additionally, what lessons can we learn from Master regarding our individual stories of rejection? Indeed, if Master endured such rejection, who are we to whine when we experience similar rejection?

Alteration of Philippians 2:11

The Cepher Bible

Additionally, with all the resources that we now have at our disposal in Hebrew Roots (e.g., George Howard’s The Hebrew Gospel of Matthew, the Cepher Bible, The Chronological Gospels and a litany of other Bible and extra-biblical resources), should we take them all at face value? Are they trustworthy resources? Can we trust the Hebrew Roots teachers that taut and sell and teach from them? How should we use them? One thing is certain: many of these resources are questionable as it relates to their trustworthiness and accuracy. As a result, we must use them with great caution and discernment.

“With all the billions of people in the world—believers and non-believers alike—what makes me stand out from all the others? What makes Father stop and listen to my prayers? What about me gets the Creator of the Universe’s attention?” And I had to really stop and think about this for a bit.

I know in a brutally honest way, that there are myriads of people out there who exceed me in their keeping of Torah; their dedication to the Faith; their prayer-life; their Spirit-life; their giving; their obedience to the teachings of Yeshua and to Torah; their level of faith. I know that I am a tremendous work in progress and I struggle each and everyday to walk this walk, especially having to work the job I have and deal with the people I oversee and then deal with my own personal deficiencies and insecurities. Thank Yah for His Ruach HaKodesh, for I would be far far far worse off than I am today if I did not have it to help me along my journey with Master.

Having a pure yet broken heart and humble spirit gets Father's attention.

Having a pure yet broken heart and humble spirit gets Father’s attention.

I’m no one special, although I would like to think that I’m special to the Father. And being no-one special, the question then begs: what then about me will get the Father’s attention? After several minutes of contemplation, I came up with what I believed was the correct answer. And the preliminary answer I came up with was “heart”: that it’s the honest, pure and humble state of one’s heart that gets the Father’s attention. For Father is a God that looks at the heart of all men and the state of that heart will determine how Father will move (or not) in that person’s life.

The Heart and the God-Man Relationship

The heart seems to be at the “heart” of so many things (no pun intended)—of so many things related to the relationship that exists between man and our Creator. It seems to be the one thing that separates the goats from the sheep, so to speak. Simply put: those with “good” hearts (and of course the term “good” is extremely relative), the Creator seems to work with more so than those with “bad” hearts (again, extremely relative), and those with “bad” hearts the Creator seems to abhor and even reject.

The one scriptural passage that comes readily to mind is that passage in Torah where Moshe is reciting the events at Sinai when we recoiled from Yahovah’s wonders that were displayed before us and we in great fear begged Moshe to be our mediator and in effect, relieve us of ever having to establish a personal relationship with the Creator. Moshe wrote:

23 And it came to pass, when ye heard the voice out of the midst of the darkness, (for the mountain did burn with fire,) that ye came near unto me, even all the heads of your tribes, and your elders; 24 And ye said, Behold, the LORD our God hath shewed us his glory and his greatness, and we have heard his voice out of the midst of the fire: we have seen this day that God doth talk with man, and he liveth. 25 Now therefore why should we die? for this great fire will consume us: if we hear the voice of the LORD our God any more, then we shall die. 26 For who is there of all flesh, that hath heard the voice of the living God speaking out of the midst of the fire, as we have, and lived? 27 Go thou near, and hear all that the LORD our God shall say: and speak thou unto us all that the LORD our God shall speak unto thee; and we will hear it, and do it. 28 And the LORD heard the voice of your words, when ye spake unto me; and the LORD said unto me, I have heard the voice of the words of this people, which they have spoken unto thee: they have well said all that they have spoken. 29 O that there were such an heart in them, that they would fear me, and keep all my commandments always, that it might be well with them, and with their children for ever! (Deu 5:23-29 KJV)

The clue here is that Father is a God of the heart and knowing that the heart of man is deceitful and desperately wicked, that a change in our hearts is imperative in order for the Creator to even desire to draw near to us. Nonetheless, most of us were raised under the mindset that we don’t need a heart replacement—we can remain just as we are—and God will love us just the same. Yet the Bible clearly suggests the exact opposite. That Father desires a complete change of heart in order for His Torah to be written upon it.

Three-Critical Questions

It is my hope and trust that by the end of this post we will be able to answer some of the following crucial questions:

  • Could it be that our prayers are not being answered because we have the wrong heart and wrong spirit?
  • Of all the billions of souls on this planet, why would, should or does Father hear, see and respond to some (although they may be Natsarim in Faith-based affiliation only) and not to others?
  • What do I need to do to take my relationship with the Creator of the Universe to the next level?

It is an established fact that the Spirit of Yahovah combs the earth constantly, searching the hearts of the peoples of the earth. II Chronicles records the following important, preparatory verse: For the eyes of Jehovah run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him. (2Ch 16:9 ASV) And in what manner does Father scourer this earth, searching out and examining the hearts of men? I would suggest that Father accomplishes this through His 7-Spirits that are described in a couple places in the Book of the Revelation. Revelation 3 records of these 7-Spirits:

And unto the angel of the church in Sardis write; These things saith he that hath the seven Spirits of God, and the seven stars; (Rev 3:1 KJV) And where are these 7-Spirits headquartered: why at the throne room in heaven as recorded in Revelation 5 which reads: 6 And I beheld, and, lo, in the midst of the throne and of the four beasts, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent forth into all the earth. (Rev 5:6 KJV)

So I ask you: is it not conceivable that these 7-Spirits of Yahovah are constantly going to and fro throughout the earth, checking in on man and what the status of certain men’s and women’s hearts might be? I’m just throwing that out there. So then, if Father has His Spirits constantly going about the earth, checking in on His creation and in the process, checking on the status or state of individual hearts and spirits, it would stand to reason that we should keep our spiritual house in some semblance of perpetual order. Wouldn’t you agree? And that spiritual house, I would submit to you, includes having our hearts and spirits in a proper and acceptable state; never wanting or lacking for anything apart from pleasing Abba Father and appealing to His good and perfect grace. In other words, it behooves us to always be in a Godly state, even when we are not being seen or watched by the eyes of men; for the eyes of Yahovah run to and fro throughout the whole earth checking on the hearts of men. (Reference: II Chronicles 16:9)

The condition of our hearts is what Father is primarily interested in.

The Heart of Man–A Recurring Theme in the Bible

This heart thing seems to be a recurring theme throughout the entire Bible and I believe that we have either downplayed or altogether missed the importance of the heart of man to Abba Father, especially in Hebrew Roots. And maybe this is why we have so many problems in Hebrew Roots: like our forefathers in the Sinai Desert of Moshe’s day, in many cases, we possess hearts unfit for Abba Father. Oh, we go about thinking we’re keeping Torah; we accumulate a ton of head knowledge about the Bible; and we go about doing this and that, looking to achieve some level or semblance of righteousness that we think will get Father’s attention, but at the end of the day, if our hearts and our spirits aren’t right—aren’t where they’re supposed to be–Father wants very little to do with us.

This heart thing is of such importance that Father stressed that it would be the foundation upon which the renewed covenant would be built. Of that renewed covenant, Father said through the great Prophet Jeremiah: “But this is the covenant which I will make with the house of Israel after those days,” declares Yahovah,

“I will put My law within them and on their heart I will write it; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people. (Jer 31:33 NAU)

Master Yahoshua taught in the well-known Beatitudes:

Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God. (Mat 5:8 ESV)

Master describes Himself to those who would be His disciples:

Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and YOU WILL FIND REST FOR YOUR SOULS. (Mat 11:29 NAU)

In explaining the parable of the sower, Yahoshua recited an Isaiah prophecy:

FOR THE HEART OF THIS PEOPLE HAS BECOME DULL, WITH THEIR EARS THEY SCARCELY HEAR, AND THEY HAVE CLOSED THEIR EYES, OTHERWISE THEY WOULD SEE WITH THEIR EYES, HEAR WITH THEIR EARS, AND UNDERSTAND WITH THEIR HEART AND RETURN, AND I WOULD HEAL THEM.’ (Mat 13:15 NAU)

And in a similar Isaiah prophecy, Master contends with the sages and the Prushim (aka Pharisees) regarding the condition of their hearts:

THIS PEOPLE HONORS ME WITH THEIR LIPS, BUT THEIR HEART IS FAR AWAY FROM ME. (Mat 15:8 NAU)

And of course we can not overlook Master’s response to the Prushim on the Temple Mount as they attempted to trip Him up just prior to His Passion: Master recites the great Deuteronomic command:

YOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, AND WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND.’ (Mat 22:37 NAU)

Four Key Old Testament Passage Related to the Heart and the Spirit of Man

Allow me to introduce the 4-Tanach passages that define what Father is looking for as a result of the hearts and spirits of His people. From there , I want to break down the key terms of each passage and see what insight we can gain as it relates to how we can effectively receive the Father’s attention and from there take our relationship with Yahovah to the next level.

Passage 1: found in Psalm 34:18 which reads as follows: “The LORD (i.e., Yahovah) is nigh (that is, is near) unto them that are of a broken heart, and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit. (KJV)

Passage 2: it is found in Psalm 51:17 and it reads: “The sacrifices of God (i.e., Yahovah) are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, You will not despise.” (NAS)

Passage 3, found in Isaiah 57:15 reads: “For thus says the high and exalted One who lives forever, whose name is Holy: I dwell on a high and holy place; and also with the contrite and lowly of spirit in order to revive the spirit of the lowly and to revive the heart of the contrite.” (NAS)

Passage 4 is found in Isaiah 66:2 and reads: “For My hand made all these things come into being, declares Yahovah. But to this one I will look: to him who is humble and congtrite of spirit and who trembles at my word.” (NAS)

So you see, the state of one’s heart and spirit are of such importance to Father, and for that matter, important to the relationships He would have with men, that in His divine providence, He saw fit that it be repeated several times in His Tanach.

But what I want to do at this point is examine the key terms of these passages and glean from them those truths that will help us answer the questions I expressed at the start of this post. As I alluded to earlier, if we can get this heart thing figured out, we will get Father’s attention and our relationship with the Creator of the Universe will be supercharged and all the rest—effortless obedience to His Torah; living holy lives; experiencing great and mighty exploits as we go about our daily walk with Messiah; making and retaining healthy and productive relationships with those in our circle of influence; fulfilling our proper roles in the Great Commission and the Gospel of the Kingdom; and living long, healthy and prosperous lives in Yeshua Messiah—all these things will be added to us in great abundance. I’m convinced of this because Master instructed that we seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things would be added to us. (Mat 6:33 NAU). It would stand to reason that we can’t properly seek Abba’s Kingdom without the right heart and right spirit, otherwise that seeking exercise becomes a “fool’s errand.”

The Heart

Let’s start with the term “heart” and define exactly what it is we’re talking about, since so much is resting upon this concept. I would suggest that churchianity, or for that matter, present day Hebrew Roots, has done a lousy job explaining the concept of the heart to their adherents. The English term “heart” in these 4-passages is “leb” or “labe” in the Hebrew and “kardia” in the Greek. (Clearly, the Greek term “kardia” is where we get our English term “cardiac,” which in medicine is a term that refers to all things related to the organ that is the heart.) But of course in this discussion, we’re not specifically referring to that thing that beats in each of our chests and keeps us alive—although some might contend that several of us lack this vital organ—that we’re heartless. On the contrary: we’re talking about our inner man/our inner woman; our minds; or our understanding.

The Brown-Driver-Briggs Hebrew and English Lexicon defines the heart from the perspective of of the inner man or woman; the mind; and the will of men and women. The Friberg Analytical Greek Lexicon seems to agree with the BDB Lexicon regarding the concept of the heart, but it goes into a much greater examination of the concept. According to the Friberg, “kardia” refers to the inner self and is the source and seat of the functions of the soul and the spirit in the emotional life of man. As it relates to the emotional state of man, Friberg provides the scriptural reference of Acts 2:26 which reads as follows: “Therefore my heart was glad and my tongue exulted; moreover my flesh also will abide in hope.” (NAS) From the rational perspective of the life of men and women, Friberg offers Acts 7:23 as an example and it reads: “But when he was approaching the age of 40 (speaking of Moshe here), it entered his mind to visit his brethren, the sons of Israel.” (NAS). But then from the volitional perspective of the life of men and women, Friberg offers II Corinthians 9:7 which reads: “Let each one do just as he has purposed in his heart; not grudgingly or under compulsion; for Yahovah loves a cheerful giver.” (NAS) So Friberg sees the heart from a volitional (having to do with the decision to commit a particular act or task), an emotional (having to do with feelings and sentiment), and a rational (that of reasoning and being of a sound mind) perspective and it would seem that these all play a symbiotic and active role in defining the heart of men and women.

Now the Louw-Nida Greek-English Lexicon gets into some pretty interesting stuff related to this whole concept of heart. It seems that Louw-Nida picks up from where Friberg and the BDB leave off and goes even deeper into the whole psychological aspects of this heart talk. According to Louw-Nida, the heart is the causative source of a person’s psychological life in its various aspects, but with special emphasis upon thoughts as exemplified in Matthew 22:37 which reads: “You shall love the Lord your God with your whole heart.” Then there’s I Corinthians 14:25 which reads “The secret thoughts of his heart will be brought into the open.” (NAS). Then there’s Romans 2:5 which reads: “Because of your stubbornness and your unrepentant heart, you are storing up wrath against yourself for the day of wrath.”

But then the Louw-Nida seems to break this whole thing down into simple bite sized terms that we can sink our teeth into and it pretty much solidified the concept of heart for me. Essentially, the biblical concept of heart can be broken down into 4-words: (A) one’s mind; (B) one’s intentions; (C) one’s purpose; and (D) one’s desires. Plain and simple huh? Obviously, all 4 of these work in some form of unison and it is the whole that determines the state of one’s heart. I would guess, though, that if one or more of these is out of sink with the others, it can cause quite a bit of problems. For instance: if my mind sees that I must walk a Godly life but my desires are contrary and wants to lead me towards evil, then my heart may not be in a favorable state with Abba Father. And the Thayer Greek-English Lexicon pretty much solidifies this Louw-Nida model by describing the biblical concept of heart as “the seat and center of all physical and spiritual life; the soul or mind, as it is the fountain and seat of the thoughts, passions, desires, appetites, affections, purposes and endeavors.” Indeed, that says it all. Bottom line saints, the heart defines or describes where our thoughts and minds are at any given time; how we see and behave in the world around us; how we see and feel about ourselves; the people in our lives, and especially how we see and feel about our Creator.

The Spirit

The next concept to consider is that of “spirit” or in the Hebrew, “ruach;” or in the Greek, “nuema.” This to me proved to be quite a challenging concept to fully grasp, certainly more challenging that of the heart.

According to Friberg, the biblical concept of “spirit” describes the immaterial part of the human personality. Additionally, it describes the capacity to know God; it is a disposition or way of thinking—or in a word, spirit is an attitude. But the Thayer sees spirit as the disposition or influence which fills and governs the soul of men and women. It is the efficient source of any power, affection, emotion or desire.

It would seem that the spirit is the driving force behind our personalities. I prefer to think of it as our attitude about Father, our Faith, and the people in our lives. It’s our disposition in short. Our personality or disposition or attitude is one of the first things that people notice when they meet us. Haven’t you met folks that make a terrible first impression because they seemed to have such a crummy attitude or mean disposition? But in the same vane, haven’t you met folks that leave you with a warm and loving disposition because they have such a wonderful personality or disposition—you just want to hang and get to know them. So it would seem, then, that our attitude, disposition or personality would have tremendous bearing on how Father sees us—or not. But I don’t want to get too far ahead of myself since I want to next examine the terms “broken” and “contrite,” since these words pair with heart and spirit and together work to capture the attention of Abba Father.

Broken–As in Brokenhearted

The term “broken” is “shabar” in Hebrew and “suntribo” in the Greek. And when looking up such terms, we must be careful to discern the difference in definitions based upon the context in which the term is used. In this particular concept, the term “broke” is used to describe the state of one’s heart. Clearly, one’s anatomical, physical heart is not broken or else you would not be able to live. So the term broken must be defined from a figurative perspective. Thus to have a broken heart, mind or soul for instance, would figuratively refer to a mental and emotional state of deprivation of strength; a breakdown maybe; a state of despair as found in Luke 4:18 which reads: “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me because He has anointed me to a preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to proclaim release to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind; to set free those who are downtrodden.” (NAS)

Thayer’s Lexicon sees the terms as defining a passive state of suffering such as in sorrow and to be, as it were, in a “crushed” state.

Contrite–As in Contrite Spirit

And lastly we come to the concept of “contrite” which is analogous to the English term “crushed” which is found in lieu of contrite in several English translations of the Bible. Other synonyms of the term “contrite” are “lowly” as used in the LXX or Septuagint; discouraged as used in the NET; and bruised as used in the YLT. The term “contrite” is “dakkaw” in the Hebrew and “tapeinos” in the Greek. It seems to denote simply: humility or being humble as demonstrated in Matthew 5:3 which reads: “Blessed are the poor in spirit for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” (KJV) So when the term contrite is used in the Brit Hadashah, it denotes a person of trivial power or significance such as seen in James 1:9, which reads: “But let the brother of humble circumstances glory in his high position.” (NAS) Other extra-biblical sources claim the term contrite denotes “unimportant people” as demonstrated in Luke 1:52, which reads: “He has brought down rulers from their thrones and has exalted those who are humble.” (NAS)

When referring to the use of the term contrite, we must be careful to discern the good from the bad, in that from a positive sense, contrite is speaking to a state of lowliness, humility and gentleness, as illustrated in Matthew 11:29, which reads: “Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart and you shall find rest for your souls.” (NAS) Another illustration is II Corinthians 10:1 which reads: “Now I, Paul, myself urge you by the meekness and gentleness of Christ—I who am meek when face-to-face with you but bold toward you when absent.” (NAS) And of course, the term “contrite” could denote just low grade people who would conceivably be dangerous or have nefarious intentions towards those upon which they might prey, because of the destitute state of their lives. But having a contrite spirit is not what we’re talking about here with regards to a class of socially depressed people who seek to wage war against the system that is imprisoning them. We’re talking about sincerely “humble people” as denoted in James 4:6, which reads: “But He gives a greater grace. Therefore it says, “God is opposed to the proud, but gives grace to the humble.” (NAS—Friberg Greek-English Lexicon)

The Louw-Nida sees the term contrite as pertaining to one being discouraged and lacking in hope with the possible implication of some association with low social status—ones who are dejected, downhearted, downcast—as illustrated in II Corinthians 7:6—”But Yahovah who encourages the downhearted has encouraged us.” (NAS)

And lastly, the Thayer Greek-English Lexicon agrees with the Friberg and Louw-Nida in the general use of the term “humble” to describe “contrite.” Thayer uses Proverbs 3:34 to illustrate this and it reads: “You younger men, likewise, be subject to your elders and all of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, for Yahovah is opposed to the proud, but gives grace to the humble.” (NAS)

Putting it All Together

So putting everything together in the context of these 4-illustrative verses we see that having a broken heart is noticeable to Father. It entail being in a state of total spiritual need. A broken heart recognizes that there is no one to turn to by Abba Father. It is a state where one’s sense of pride has been completely replaced with a sense of servitude and loyalty to the One True God.

When we go to Father in prayer or meditation, we should be in a state of utter and complete appreciation for all that He has done for us. It is imperative that we always remember from whence we’ve come and where we could be if not for Abba’s perfect will, providence and provision. Then we must approach Father with a contrite spirit. This translates into having a humble disposition. He or she whom Father is drawn is not pretentious; they are possess no agendas; such folks are transparent; these are completely open to what the Father has to give them and require of them.

I’m not saying that we should approach life in a dejected state; miserable; mousy; loathsome; depressed. Far from it. Shaul encourages us to:

Rejoice in the Lord always…” Philippians 4:4

That is a far cry from leading a depressed life.

What we’re talking about is how we see, interact and approach Father. Not that we are to be afraid to approach Father. Again, far from it. The writer of Hebrews wrote:

“Let us draw near with confidence (in the KJV boldly) to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” (Hebrews 4:17, NAS)

That being said, we can boldly approach the throne of grace, but approach the throne of grace in humility and transparency and love and peace and hope and all the things that would disavow the thought of pride and selfishness in our lives and walk with Messiah. One can certainly be confident in one’s Faith in Yahoshua and at the same time, be of a contrite spirit and of a broken heart when it comes to our relationship with Abba Father. Indeed, it is the tendency of man to be puffed up—pompous—arrogant—haughty—proud. Why? Because hasatan is made of this very fabric and he seeks to push all of us to conform to his evil image as opposed to the image of our Master Yahoshua HaMashiyach.

Let’s Answer the Three Questions

  • Could it be that our prayers are not being answered because we have the wrong heart and wrong spirit? Absolutely. As we’ve seen, Abba Father does not care for hearts that are pompous, arrogant, puffed up, miserable, angry, callous, etc. He seems to avoid them as much as He possibly can. So it would seem by deduction that individuals who possess such hearts are likely to not have their prayers answered. On the flip side, however, Abba hears the prayers and is drawn to the broken hearted soul and the spirit that is contrite: those who are humble, pure, honest, transparent, gentle, completely sold out and utterly dependent upon Him for everything. These enter into a season of prayer with “hat in hand,” so to speak, realizing that Father is the source of their redemption and their life; these possess demeanors that recognize the greatness of our Creator; that recognize that if not for Yahovah’s grace and providence and perfect will, they would be eternally lost; recognizing that their salvation and their relationship with Father has nothing to do with them as an individual apart from their obedience to His Word. Thus, the prayers of the broken hearted and contrite of spirit are heard and ultimately answered by Abba Father.
  • Of all the billions of souls on this planet, why would, should or does Father hear, see and respond to some (although they may be Natsarim in Faith-based affiliation only) and not to others? As we just discussed in the previous question, it would clearly seem that Father responds to the pure of heart and humble of spirit over those who possess sullied and hardened hearts and contentious and arrogant spirits. Sullied and hardened hearts and contentious and arrogant spirits are held by most individuals on this planet. Yet those who are true disciples of Yeshua Messiah should possess the exact opposite hearts and spirits. And it is the broken hearted and the contrite of spirit that get the Father’s attention.
  • What do I need to do to take my relationship with the Creator of the Universe to the next level? Examine ourselves and assess the true state of our relationship with Father. It’s time to be transparent with Father and with ourselves as disciples of Yahoshua Messiah. Why try to hide anything from Abba any longer? He knows our hearts. He knows our demeanors and our compulsions. Shaul instructed the Assembly in Corinth to “Examine—to test—themselves to see if they are in the faith, examine yourselves (Shaul exclaimed)! Know ye not your own selves, how that Yeshua Messiah is in you, unless indeed you fail the test?” (II Corinthians 13:5) Let’s be honest with ourselves: does it seem Father is ignoring us or that our lives are stagnant, despite our continued prayers to change our situation? Does it appear that life is dealing us a bad hand at every turn despite our obedience to Torah and maybe even our steadfast study of His Word? Is our life as jacked up as it was before we came into Hebrew Roots? Well, could the problem be that we have a jacked up heart and spirit? Could it be then, that Abba is simply not attracted to us because we lack the type of heart that He so desperately seeks after? If we have hearts that are lacking, the good news is that there’s a cure for it. We simply must give it all to Him. Turn everything over to Him. Seek after a pure and humble heart and spirit. Allow the Ruach to work in our lives and not fight the work that the Ruach is trying to do. Attack those strongholds that keep us stagnant in our walk because we default to the old man and old heart and old spirit. We must put these negative things permanently to bed. And with the help of the Ruach—maybe a little more fasting—maybe a ton more prayer—certainly with a change of perspective; Yah’s perspective that is—then just maybe we can receive that heart adjustment that Abba is seeking after in us.

I guess it all comes down to diving deep inwardly and asking the Father for more of Him in our lives. And if we have more of Him in our lives, by default, our hearts and spirits will adjust accordingly. As stated in one of my favorite praise and worship songs, written and performed by Michael W. Smith—”More Love—More Power,” he sings:

More love, more power
More of You in my life
More love, more power
More of You in my life

And I will worship You with all of my heart
and I will worship you with all of my mind
I will worship you with all of my strength
For You are my Lord

Shabbat Shalom–Shavuatov fellow saints in training. May you be abundantly blessed.

Faithfully submitted and yours in Yeshua Messiah,

Hollywood and Atheism

Hollywood and Atheism

Atheism is Alive and Well in Hollywood

I came across an article the other day that just solidifies for me how shallow some of the more elite of us are in our western society. When it comes down to the question of “do you believe in God?” I elected not to recite for you the names of said elitists. I don’t want to glorify those who would take a stand or side against our Creator. Some of the reasons these elitists gave for not believing in God had hostile overtones. My purpose here is to share with you the mindset we’re up against as active members of our shared Faith.

"Surprise!

It is a fair bet that the fans of these paragons of all that is “cool” and “desirable” in our culture and society, adopt the mindset of their idols. Sadly, these elitists and those who adopt their atheistic worldview are misled “fools.” The great King of Israel David wrote: “The fool has said in his heart there is no God. They are corrupt, they have committed abominable deeds. There is no one who does good.” (Psalm 14:1, NASB) What David is saying here is that with so many infallible proofs to the Creator’s existence, how can any person question God’s existence. And when you are blessed with tremendous responsibility (such as being a celebrity), you are expected to be a role model. You are prohibited from leading your followers astray.

Needless to say, I was especially ticked off when I read this article. I was outraged by the arrogance that some of these individuals proudly displayed in expressing their disbelief.

So as a means of therapy for my outrage over these folks’ statements against my God, I felt that I might as well air these foolish reasons for not believing in the existence of the Creator.

Homosexuality

The first celebrity declared he was an atheist because he was angry that the Creator was “homophobic.” Father is “homophobic” so I just won’t believe in Him. I’ll show Him mentality. Well, for me, that celebrity certainly showed his true colors in more ways than one. And I would even submit that this individual’s gripe is not against the Creator but with him self. And that is sad.

A Question of Baptism

The second celebrity had an issue with Christianity as it is portrayed in the New Testament. This individual specifically had an issue with baptism, which I found to be quite strange. But whatever. This individual throws out there that if he finds that he’s wrong about God’s existence, then he would be fine with being committed to a fiery abyss. All I say to that is: live, drink, be merry because if you don’t get this sorted out, you just might get what you believe will happen to you.

Knowledge Over Faith Every Time

The next celebrity had more of a rational take on the question of the Creator’s existence. He and another polled celebrity elected to side with intellect. They asserted that the knowledge that mankind has accumulated over the course of his existence has replaced any need for belief in a sovereign God. Well, I would say that I respect this perspective more than any of the previously stated perspectives and the perspectives to come.

The second celebrity who appealed to intellect cited that religion can not be proved while science is provable. Interestingly, isn’t it the Creator who created the laws of the universe which embody science? But I would venture to guess that most of these intellectual types do not realize this which in my mind questions their level of intellect. I believe that most denials of God’s existence are based upon emotion and ego. I do realize that knowledge, although one of the greatest gifts from the Creator, has the potential of being used to deny the existence of Father.

Faith in God is a Waste of Time

The next celebrity asserted that belief in a sovereign God is a waste of life. Okay. I guess that accumulating fame and fortune is a much better use of one’s life. At least those who are the elite of our society enjoy in this life a life of pleasure, comfort, etc. Yet these have no real sense of security when it comes to the day they close their eyes for the last time and they cease to exist as a living being on this planet. Then what?

The Bible is Offensive

The next celebrity is simply offended by the Bible? I guess that’s as stupid a reason to deny the existence of God as any other. But then, why is this celebrity offended by the Bible? One of the greatest purposes of the Bible is to offend and cause one to make a change in their life. Maybe this individual is feeling the tug to come over to the Faith and abandon his or her evil and anti-God ways.

Celebrity is God

One female celebrity, jokingly, cited that her celebrity was her god. She gave a slight back-slap at our Master by staunchly asserting that Jesus had nothing to do with her success. I believe this back-handed remark had to do with the conventional practice by some celebrities who give credit to Jesus or God for their success, especially when receiving and or accepting an award.

Christianity is Immoral

Another female celebrity pompously cited that her morality was superior to Christianity’s morality. Again, wow! I certainly have come across at least one individual who has made the same type of assertion. But when one takes an inventory of these individuals’ sense of morality, one finds that these individuals tend to be extremely liberal in their views. Their lives and worldviews are typically less than pure and noble. Elitists are naturally self-centered. They feel a sense of superiority over those who would adopt the Faith once delivered. But this is a most dangerous game that these individuals are playing with the Almighty. When we pit our sense of morality against the creator of true morality, we are clearly signing our own eternal death warrants.

I Can’t See God–So He Can’t Possibly Exist

I like this next celebrity’s take on the existence of God: How do you believe in something you can’t see? Well, the answer to that question is simple: you just do goofy! The whole point of the Faith and faith is faith! Faith is the cornerstone of everything. We base our life; our behavior, hopes, obedience, everything on that which we can not see with our natural eyes. That’s the whole kit and caboodle in a nutshell.

God is Mean

And closing out this thing is a celebrity who declares that he’s an atheist because he sees God as cold, callous and hateful. I did an podcast episode addressing this very thing and I entitled it: Will the Real God of the Old Testament Please Stand Up. That episode got a goodly amount of downloads. I challenged the common misconception that God is cold, mean and callous in that post. I essentially called out the common but arrogant behavior that we humans tend to display. That has to do with judging the Creator using our own set of morals. Sadly, this is a fools game that we commonly play. Yahovah is the sole establisher of morals for humanity. The Torah contains Father’s established morals. Unfortunately, the Torah stands before most secular souls as being immoral. That spells bad news for all who would foolishly second-guess the Father.

So What Then?

This is what we’re up against folks. Most of these individuals and their myriad of followers require the scales fall from their eyes in order for them to see the truth. That truth will set them free.

Let us be about Father’s business and make disciples of the nations. Pray for this nation. Let us hope that more and more scales fall from the eyes of the elite in the coming end of days.

Faithfully Submitted
